about

‘The Shape Of’ is an ensemble featuring Donny Mahlmeister on guitar/electronics, Theo Katsaounis on Drums, Ryan Packard on Vibraphones and Glenn Rischke on bass. This first release, The Shape of Skateboard Jazz to Come, explores composed and improvised pieces that touch on guitar soundtrack music akin to Ennio Morricone and early The Shadows; minimalist compositions in the realm of Arnold Dreyblatt and Steve Reich; and early electronic rock from Ashra and Cluster.

All of the members of this project have been longstanding members of the midwest rock, improv and jazz scene; Donny with Early Day Miners, Judson Claiborne, A Tundra and Collections Of Colonies Of Bees; Theo with Joan Of Arc , Dead Rider , Locks, A Tundra and Anatomy Of Habit; Glenn with Cloudbirds, Bora Bora and The M's; ; and Ryan with Fonema Consort (Chicago), Architek Percussion (Montréal), eighth blackbird, Ensemble Dal Niente, Fifth House Ensemble, MOCREP, A.pe.ri.od.ic, The Fulton Street Dance Collective and Skeletons.
